Keyan and Christina’s thesis project needs to meet the current building code by having two exit stairs.

We will take their design work and adjust the scheme to have a single exit stair, allowing for comparison of designs and illustrating the enhanced architectural possibilities and improved communing opportunities of the single exit circulation. 

The single exit scheme will either follow the limitations of the Seattle Building Code of six storeys (22m) and maximum four dwelling units per floor, or follow the Berlin and Zurich limit of 60m. Reconcilling the occupancy loads and building use categories of a co-housing project with the NBC will present a uniqe challenge in itself.
